What does vintage have to do with sustainability?

In our eyes, quite a lot!

If you take a look at our current fashion industry, it becomes clear: it is dominated by "fast fashion". This means producing clothes as cheaply as possible and as quickly as possible in order to satisfy people's desire to consume and to outdo the competition.

Unfortunately, being as cheap and as fast as possible only means cutting costs in certain areas. Cheap labor, simple processing methods and inexpensive materials are the top priority.

Not only the people employed in production and processing suffer, but also the environment.

The textile industry is ranked 2nd in the world among the most harmful industries for our environment!

We recommend the following documentary, which illustrates very well what it is all about:

What can you do? Here are a few suggestions on what we find advantageous about vintage clothing:

1. Second hand clothing has already been produced - with your purchase you are obviously not actively supporting large industries.

2. The clothes made back then generally have higher quality standards in terms of materials and workmanship. They simply last longer and your item of clothing won't be crying out for replacement in six months.

3. If you buy new materials these days, such as fleece, microplastics end up in our waterways during the first wash cycles. Vintage clothing has already experienced this.
Leather would be another example of a material that is perhaps better only purchased as a second-hand item.

However, we do not just want to avoid climate-damaging behavior, we also want to actively do something about it.

We have entered into a collaboration with Ecologi to do a little bit of good with every order you place with us.
This means: For every product in your order, Ecolog automatically plants 5 trees in different places around the world.

Supported projects can be found, for example, in Madagascar, Mozambique and Nicaragua.

You can find out more about the company at https://ecologi.com/ .

At https://ecologi.com/dud-vintageclothing you can see our digital forest, which is representative of all the real trees we plant with your help.

We are also constantly working on making our work processes and sales as sustainable as possible. For example, through plastic-free shipping.

Of course, our mission is not to turn you all into climate activists.
But we believe it is important for each of us to increase awareness of such problems and to question our own actions more often and adjust them in the right direction.
